Electric Vehicle Home Charging in Queensland

Disrupt Digital • Mar 14, 2022

With the price of petrol hitting $2/litre, many Australians are keen to get their hands on an electric vehicle.

Even with supply delays, limited models available in the Australian market and a lack of Commonwealth or Queensland government incentives to reduce the upfront cost.

Once you order your electric vehicle, it is worth considering how cost-efficient and convenient it is to charge your electric vehicle at home. There are several EV home charging options and sustainable solutions to integrate with existing home solar and future battery technology.

Whether you already own an electric vehicle or are planning to buy one, we can help you to develop the optimal charging solution for your EV needs. We service Brisbane, Gold Coast and Logan homes and businesses.

Where and how can you charge the battery of Electric Vehicles (EVs)?

EVs have different electric car charging requirements depending on your specific daily driving range. Aside from public chargers made widely available, you might want to consider installing one in the convenience of your own home. This will require off-street parking, such as a carport, driveway or garage.

Your electrical vehicle charger must be installed by a licensed electrician. We can help you to identify your home electrical capacity and EV charging needs, to recommend the right EV charger for you.  We will then complete the installation for you, by a fully insured and licensed electrician.

What are the different home charging options?

There are a variety of EV charging options, some of which are Australian owned. Other factors that can affect the charging time include charging speed, home energy capacity, battery size and state (empty or full), the maximum charging rate of vehicle and charge points, and other environmental factors.

You can use a slower but portable charger by charging your electric car directly using a standard (three-prong) 220V plug. Or, we can install a fast charger at home, directly wired into your home, on its own circuit and with an isolator switch.

Depending on your EV’s battery capacity, it can take anywhere from 4 to 48 hours to fully charge a battery from empty.

We can also set you up with a greener option by using renewable energy and using electricity generated from your home solar system to power your EV. This is an ultra efficient way to charge your EV, particular in South East Queensland. We are also fully certified CEC solar designer and installers so can design and install a solar solution for your needs if there is no existing solar at your home.

What are other features of home EV chargers?

“Smart” home chargers have more advanced features for convenience. These include enhanced user-interface systems, display, charging timers, data collection, keypads, messaging options, and even voice commands. You can also link smart EV chargers with Wi-Fi networks and smartphones.

Choosing the right technology is key to making EV charging at home fast and cost-effective. With more people opting for sustainability, it’s only a matter of time before the EV emerging market can compete with traditional transport fossil fuel. With a bit of research, planning, and forming good habits from EV users, the confidence towards this cost-efficient technology will be a ground-breaking shift for the future of sustainable energy.
